Less Touristy Travel Destinations You Should Consider

Are you one who tends to avoid the herd? That’s okay, because there are tons of options for you in your travels, less tourist-ridden locales that you can opt for on the next outing. That’s what Sintra is all about, custom-tailoring the experience to suit your needs, setting yourself up for something that is both comfortable, yet boundary-stretching.

Here are some places that are a little more off the beaten path, maybe a place you might be able to enjoy without the crowd — maybe you’ll catch up with them later when you’re down to go somewhere like London, Paris, or Rome. These are some hidden gems that might not stay hidden for long, because people can’t seem to keep a good secret.

Puglia, Italy

Think of Puglia as the heel to Italy’s boot. In this beachside town food is locally sourced. That means olive oil, artichokes, cured meats, all farm to table. You can even stay in a converted farm house instead of the normal hostel. Many restaurants keep a quaint air about them, but that does not come at a cost to quality.

Koh Tao, Thailand

Tropical has its own unique look in the Land of Smiles. Tourists from all over the globe make their way to the southern islands for some great beach night life and tropic beauty. Koh Tao is a hidden gem of an island, with its shark cove and turtle island within 20 minutes of all beachside hotels/hostels. Take a chance in Koh Tao, Sintra’s originator did, and it was one of the best parts of the Thailand venture.

York, United Kingdom

Maybe you’re staying away from places like London and you’re not really into Shakespeare. York has old-school pubs, cafes, and elegant tea rooms, some even built into 16th-century houses. The Tour de France has even made it a point to stop through York.

Busan, South Korea

Don’t let their northerly neighbors deter you from visiting beautiful South Korea. When you get sick of Seoul, you might think about venturing out to Busan, home of many a majestic temple. It’s been deemed a destination on the rise, so make sure you get there before everyone else does. Check out impressive art museums, an outdoor bird sanctuary, and a boisterous fish market complete with live squid.

Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Since everyone else is in busy Ha Long Bay, you might want to consider Phu Quoc, where you can hit up ride boats, check out the scenery, and enjoy an adult beverage or two. You can rent a motorbike and coast the dirt roads then take a swim in an uncrowded part of the ocean.

Singapore

Lonely Planet deemed Singapore the top country to visit in 2015, which has exposed it as the stellar destination it is. This industrial island is home to one of the world’s largest man-made waterfalls, and an infinity pool that rests 57 stories high at Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. Every backpacker and frequent wanderer should definitely hit up Singapore.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Nicaragua has some excellent surfing and an excellent vibe going for it. You can also go volcano boarding, visit Ometepe Island, and admire some of the world’s most well-preserved architecture in Granada.

St. Lucia

Lonely Planet crowned St. Lucia the top Carribean trip in 2015, due to its immense foliage, twin-peaked volcanoes, and picturesque black sand beaches. Anse Mamin is a private black beach that truly is known to never disappoint. St.Lucia has flow under the radar over time, but is truly a great Carribean escape.

Sintra, Portugal is also a beautiful place from which inspired our name, so that’s always going to come as a high recommendation. Sintra is here to make the journey better, simpler, and more interesting along the way.
